Will I encounter insects?
Insects! We’ve got them, and we’ve got a lot of them! There are many insects around and the vast majority of them are harmless. We want you to be realistic about what you will encounter here and be prepared. We have to keep in mind that there is a whole food chain out there and the animals we enjoy watching so much in their natural habitat rely on these insects. These encounters with insects are part of the spectacle of being in the rainforest. That said, please feel free to take precaution and use insect repellant (especially in the early evenings). Be mindful, light attracts insects so closing up the house in the evening will reduce the amount of insects drawn to the house.
What wildlife has been spotted at Sacred Sombrero?
We have a large variety of wildlife on our property, including monkeys, anteaters, pavones (turkey), toucans, macaws, hummingbirds, parrots, hawks, falcons, crocodiles, agouties and we have had sightings of tapirs, ocelots, and jaguars!
What should I plan to pack?
Plan to pack light. It is hot and humid here. A flashlight, insect repellant, reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, and swim suit, along with your clothes. It is recommended to use fragrance-free products to reduce the attraction of insects.
